Began to remove clothes in the foyer of Sligo Courthouse

-

A man who was drunk and began to remove his clothes in the foyer of Sligo Courthouse had since given up alcohol, the District Court heard.

Marcin Palyga of County Apartments, Carrick- on- Shannon was summond for offences under the Public Order Act at the Courthouse on November 3rd last.

Inspector Donal Sweeney said at 11.30am in the foyer of the courthouse while the District Court was sitting the defendant began shouting and removing items of his clothing. He was intoxicated and was subsequently arrested.

Mr Tom MacSharry, solicitor ( defending) said the defendant wished to apologise to the arresting Garda Thomas Griffin.

The defendant had since come to terms with a serious alcohol problem and had received treatment. He was now working as a scaffolder in Dublin. At the time of the offences he had been in a particularly bad place, said Mr MacSharry.

Inspector Donal Sweeney said the defendant had three previous convictions for engaging in threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour while he also had a drunk driving conviction.

The defendant told the court he had moved to Dublin where there was more support. He was no longer drinking. Judge Kevin Kilrane said he would adjourn the case to June 14th 2018 and if there was no further trouble he would strike out the charges.
