Housing grant delays

THE sheer volume of applications for housing grants for the Elderly, Disability and Mobility grants is resulting in delays of up to eight months.

Council official Joe Murphy told Cllr Michael Clarke that they received 347 applications in 2016 and 200 already this year.

They’ve already approved and committed grants amounting to over ¤ 1.1million so far this year. The Council cannot fund all applications and has to prioritise on a medical basis.

It doesn’t have any extra staff to deal with grant applications.
