Ox Mountain Sportive
RECORD numbers rook part in the Ox Mountain 4 Passes Sportive in south Sligo on Sunday. Organised by the local Ox Mountain Cycling Club, it was the first time the sportive took in all four passes.
In spectacular scenic countryside, the cyclists began the Sportive from Joe Dan’s in Drummartin, the route then travelled towards Bonniconlon and cyclists were enjoying the breathtaking scenery along Lough Easkey and the surrounding countryside.
The Sportive then went up Ladies Brae, known for its challenging yet fascinating climbs along the mountain. Race directors added the old pass of Rooskey Hill as an additional climb, giving two testy climbs to the 60k stage and four testy climbs to the 120k.
The Sportive was 126KM in total and cyclists were treated to much- deserved refreshments at the end of the cycle. The organisers said it was wonderful to see so many take part in the event and the numbers were bigger than last year due to the additional routes. The Ox Mountain Cycling Club meets regularly and new members are welcome. Check them out on Facebook or contact 086 2593007.
