Teams ready for Féile na nÓg

-

FOUR Sligo teams are competing at the Féile Peil na nÓg this weekend. They are Calry/ St Joseph’s, who have two teams going, St Mary’s. Enniscrone and CT Gaels.

The finals are being held in Cavan, Fermanagh and Monaghan. National Féile , Peil na nÓg which started in 1982 in Cavan and has grown in popularity year on year is a fantastic celebration of gaelic games and is a great opportunity for young players to showcase their skills on a national stage. In the 2017 Féile na nÓg boys football tournament, there are 80 host teams.

These 80 host teams, will host visiting teams from across 29 Counties, plus Britain and North America. In total, 12 overseas teams will travel to take part this year.

St. Mary’s are being hosted by the Newtownbutler club in Co. Fermanagh and are competing in a very strong Division 4 along with Cuala ( Dublin), Newtownbutler ( Fermanagh) and Scotstown ( Monaghan).

St. Mary’s qualified for Feile 2017 by winning the Sligo Under 13 Feile competition last October defeating Drumcliffe in the final.

Over the past few months the squad have been preparing for Feile under the coaching team of John Clifford, Joe Campbell, Gerry Moore and have also been able to call upon Sligo star Mark Breheny to help out with their preparations.

The squad will travel to Newtownbutler on Friday afternoon for two key games against Cuala and Scotstown and will then play hosts Newtownbutler on Saturday morning.

Depending on how they progress further games could be played in Cavan and Monaghan over the weekend.

The squad have prepared well and are travelling with a strong panel and both panel and management are looking forward to what should be a memorable weekend of football.

It’s a brilliant occasion for all the teams involved as they compete with top players across Ireland.
