St. Angela’s College offers Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition, Food and Business Management

WITH the increased popularity of nutrition and healthy foods, the Irish food industry needs talented young graduates to create innovative and nutritious food products that will enhance consumers’ lives. St. Angela’s College, Sligo is now offering a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition, Food and Business Management, a full- time degree accredited by NUI Galway, and are accepting applicatio­ns before the CAO change of mind deadline in July.

Aimed at students with a strong interest in food, developmen­t of food products, nutrition and health, graduates of previous courses are finding rewarding careers in New Product Developmen­t, Quality Assurance, Research and Developmen­t, Food Lab Technician and Supervisor­y/ Management Roles within Food Companies. There are currently excellent employment opportunit­ies in the food industry with a shortage of appropriat­ely qualified graduates, who have an understand­ing of nutrition, culinary skills and market trends. Salaries for graduate Food Technician/ NPD roles range between € 23,000 to € 40,000 and for graduates progressin­g to Food Product Developmen­t Manager roles in Ireland, salaries range between € 45,000 to € 90,000.

The four- year degree will help develop knowledge and understand­ing of contempora­ry issues in food and nutrition, culinary skills and sensory analysis techniques, providing students with skills to develop their own food products, conduct sensory trials, market research and present their products with packaging, labelling, costings and marketing plans.
