St. Angela’s College offers Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition, Food and Business Management
WITH the increased popularity of nutrition and healthy foods, the Irish food industry needs talented young graduates to create innovative and nutritious food products that will enhance consumers’ lives. St. Angela’s College, Sligo is now offering a Bachelor of Applied Science in Nutrition, Food and Business Management, a full- time degree accredited by NUI Galway, and are accepting applications before the CAO change of mind deadline in July.
Aimed at students with a strong interest in food, development of food products, nutrition and health, graduates of previous courses are finding rewarding careers in New Product Development, Quality Assurance, Research and Development, Food Lab Technician and Supervisory/ Management Roles within Food Companies. There are currently excellent employment opportunities in the food industry with a shortage of appropriately qualified graduates, who have an understanding of nutrition, culinary skills and market trends. Salaries for graduate Food Technician/ NPD roles range between € 23,000 to € 40,000 and for graduates progressing to Food Product Development Manager roles in Ireland, salaries range between € 45,000 to € 90,000.
The four- year degree will help develop knowledge and understanding of contemporary issues in food and nutrition, culinary skills and sensory analysis techniques, providing students with skills to develop their own food products, conduct sensory trials, market research and present their products with packaging, labelling, costings and marketing plans.
