MUSIC IN MAUGHEROW
THE first ever Knocklane Music Festival took place over the weekend in Ellen’s pub in Maugherow.
The Benbulben Comhaltas will be celebrating their second year this September.
There was an art competition and workshops throughout the weekend, along with lots of live music.
Tutors for the event were: Five times All- Ireland champion Junior Davey ( Bodhran / Bones), John Dwyer, ( Flute / whistle) and Jason McGuin- ness, ( Ceili Drumming).
The festival has been named after Knocklane Hill which is located on the peninsula of Maugherow overlooking Ballyconnell and Raughley and which has featured in many stories and compositions to date including that of JP Lenehan who sang, ‘ the hill of sweet knocklane’.
Some of Ireland’s top musicians and singers from around and even further afield were present at the event to mark the first ever year.
