THE first ever Knocklane Music Festival took place over the weekend in Ellen’s pub in Maugherow.

The Benbulben Comhaltas will be celebratin­g their second year this September.

There was an art competitio­n and workshops throughout the weekend, along with lots of live music.

Tutors for the event were: Five times All- Ireland champion Junior Davey ( Bodhran / Bones), John Dwyer, ( Flute / whistle) and Jason McGuin- ness, ( Ceili Drumming).

The festival has been named after Knocklane Hill which is located on the peninsula of Maugherow overlookin­g Ballyconne­ll and Raughley and which has featured in many stories and compositio­ns to date including that of JP Lenehan who sang, ‘ the hill of sweet knocklane’.

Some of Ireland’s top musicians and singers from around and even further afield were present at the event to mark the first ever year.
