Swarm of bees taken from tree
Pedestrians were directed away from a portion of a city centre street at lunch time last Wednesday as a bee- keeper was called in to deal with a swarm of bees in a tree.
The swarm were located in a Borough Council tree on the footpath which was recently upgraded.
A spokesperson for Sligo County Council said: “Sligo County Council park staff received a report of bees swarming in newly planted trees in Wine Street.
“With the assistance of bee- keeper Paul Coyle, most of the bees were removed.
“As there was a mix of bees, they were taken to an open field and released into the countryside.”
The bee- keeper managed to get the bees into a box and bring them away without anyone being stung.
