Fined and banned

A motorist who was caught driving without insurance twice in the space of three months has been fined and banned for one year.

Jessica Brennan, Caltragh Crescent didn’t have insurance on September 21st at Cairns Road. She was previously fined € 100 last November for not having insurance on June 5th 2016.

Ms Laura Spellman, solicitor ( defending) pleaded that the defendant worked as a carer and drove to about 15 clients a week throughout he county. The mother of three was going through a relationsh­ip break- up at the time. She took a chance on driving, added Ms Spellman.

Judge Kevin Kilrane said the defendant must lose her licence as it was a second conviction.

“If she is banned she loses her job,” said Mr Spellman. Judge Kilrane said the defendant was “out driving again knowing there had been a conviction pending. The defendant was fined € 200 and banned for one year.

At the same court, Andrew Hunt, Cloonagaha­un, Bunnanadde­n was fined € 300 for not having insurance at Scarden on December 12th.

Ms Laura Spellman, solicitor ( defending) entered a plea to the offence.

Michelle Mills, New Caltragh was fined € 100 and banned for three years for not having insurance at Thomas Street on January 28th last.
