EMPLOYERS TO BENEFIT FROM WRC OFFICES

- BY JENNY MCCUDDEN

The Workplace Relations Commission ( WRC) has opened the first of its Regional Services Offices in Sligo.

The office was opened by Government Chief Whip Minister Joe McHugh last Monday. Fine Gael TD Tony McLoughlin was at the official opening at the offices in Finisklin.

Speaking at the launch Deputy McLoughlin said: “I was delighted to be on hand today with the Government Chief Whip Joe McHugh to officially open the new Regional Services Office of the WRC in Sligo.

“This office, and the services it provides, will be of huge benefit to workers and employers in Sligo and across the entire North West region.

“Sligo is the first of these Regional Offices, through which the WRC is extending its full range of services across the country. These services include conciliation, adjudication, mediation, and inspection, all designed to promote the improvement of workplace relations, and the maintenance of good workplace relations.

“Sligo was also the first county to receive a mediator from the WRC, who has been based here since earlier in the month. “

Deputy McLoughlin added: “In another boost to North West, the WRC is also introducing new hearing offices in Donegal and Mayo.”

The creation of the Workplace Relations Commission ( WRC) has been called the biggest change to industrial re- lations and employment rights in 70 years of the State.

The commission came into being as an independent, statutory body under the Workplace Relations Act 2015. It is a onestop shop for all employment claims that were previously dealt with by a multitude of different bodies.
