Varadkar is wrong to set referendum on Abortion in motion

-

Madam Editor,

Leo Varadakar ( pictured) while setting out his Vision for the future of the country said he wanted a “Republic of opportunity”. That apparently didn’t include a section of the unborn.

In the very first days of his leadership he has set the wheels in motion for a referendum to decide on the fate of the unborn.

Can there be any arrogance greater than that? It will cost millions to run this unnecessary referendum which only a small minority are asking for and which has been recommended by the “sham” they call the Citizens’ Assembly. Would this money not be better spent to reduce the long waiting list in our hospitals?

To consider killing an unborn baby because it has a life limiting condition is to presume to know what length of life or quality of life is needed to deem a life worthwhile.

Does it not follow on, that if an unborn baby is deemed unsuitable for life that those, with similar conditions, already living, are also at risk, or people with incurable illnesses or the elderly who need constant care etc.

Are we heading to a society of the survival of the fittest?

Those promoting abortion try to make us believe that a foetus is not actually a baby.

This is either a deliberate attempt to mislead or an indication that they need to educate themselves.

Life begins at conception and any attempt to end that life is a grave wrong and can never be allowed by any civilised society. They talk about unwanted babies.

There is no such thing as an unwanted baby. There are so many families who would love to have a child and would be quite happy to give a home to a baby even if that baby is not expected to live for very long or even if that child would need special care.

The facts are, abortion is a deliberate attack on an unborn child which leads to its death. Mr Varadkar - good leaders attract followers, people are happy to follow them.

You have already lost the support of the majority of people in this country who have shown on many occasions that they will never support abortion.

A leader without followers will achieve very little.

Regards, Bernie O Hara Greaghnafarna Dromahair Co. Leitrim.
