Igiehon ‘ grateful’ for Rovers opportunity

-

BENNY Igiehon says he will give 100% every time he lines out for Sligo Rovers. THE Bit O’Red are desperate for goals, having struggled all season in front of the target, and Igiehon is hopeful that he can be the answer to their problems.

He won’t, however, be setting targets for himself.

“My desire is to work as hard as I can to get into the team and get my chance and try and get as many goals as I can.

“I don’t like to do that ( set a target) because if you set a target you might limit yourself. My personal belief is to give 100% every single time,” he told The Sligo Champion.

Most recently on the books of Scarborough United, the 23- yearold was given the chance to come to Rovers on trial. “At the end of my season I was given a chance to come in on trial and I just came here for a week and did alright. The manager wanted me to stay so I was quite excited about that. A couple of weeks later here I am.”

The League of Ireland had not come to his attention before, but he did his research prior to coming over.

“I wasn’t aware of it before but when I was told about it I went on to YouTube and looked at a few games to see what the standard was like to try and prepare myself.”

The striker started out at Halifax before moving to Switzerland. He then returned to play in the Conference, before going to University and playing football simultaneously.

And so far, be has been impressed with the new manager: “He’s excellent. He’s different class. The training sessions he’s been putting up have been class, the way he likes us to play is excellent. The coaching he has been offering to me and other players has been excellent.

“Especially for me because it helps me to learn more and develop. I’m grateful for the opportunity he has provided for me and hopefully I can repay him with performances on the pitch.”

A YouTube star in his own right, Benny says there might be more videos soon once he brings his Macbook over to Ireland.
