Castlerock girls win
CASTLEROCK NS boys and girls were in the 2- teacher 7- aside finals. The girls won their final on a scoreline of 10- 5 with Banada, while the boys were runners up with Banada, the game finished 7- 4.
The finals took place in scorching heat last Tuesday in Markievicz Park. The same two schools from the Tourlestrane parish were involved in the finals.
The girls’ final was an entertaining and competitive match enjoyed immensely by the spectators and this time it was the Castlerock girls who achieved victory.
Banada’s goalie was needed early on the fantastic Aoife Walsh made wonderful saves from Castlerock’s Erin Deehan and Kayleigh Leonard.
Castlerock had numerous chances in front of goal but good defence measures from Banada’s Jade Walsh and Lauren Normanly saw these efforts go wide. Scores in the first half came from Banada’s Anna Tracey, Ciara Walsh and Lauren Normanly. Castlerock scorers were Erin Deehan, Cora Gilligan and Amy Kennedy. Half time, it was all square 4- 4.
Castlerock found their form in the second half and three scores from Cora Gilligan saw them take a firm lead.
However, Banada did not give up and Lauren Normanly scored a point to keep them in it. It was to be Castlerock’s day though, and they seized victory on a scoreline of 10- 5.
