There was no joy for our U12 hurlers who after a gallant effort went down by 6 points to 4 to Tourlestrane. Our U14 hurlers came out on top against Castleconnor after a torrid battle. It took a heroic effort in the second half to keep them out but they prevailed on a scoreline of 3- 0 to 0- 5. They now progress to meet Tourlestrane in the shield final. There was a wonderful atmosphere in Kilcoyne Park on Friday evening with our U14s in action on the main pitch and our u6/ 8/ 10s showing great skills and determination on the back pitch against neighbours Curry and Cloonacool. Thanks to everyone who helped out on the evening, from the coaches, officials to those who prepared and served refreshments. A special word of thanks to first time refs Conor Gavigan, Diarmuid Henry, Donnacha Henry, Liam Skeffington and Liam Skeffington. Well done to all, Wonderful community spirit. Our U14 footballers battled to a hard earned victory against Coolera/ Strandhill. It was 1- 5 a piece at half time but goals early in the 2nd half gave a little bit of breathing space. It took some wonderful defending in the last quarter to keep out a Coolera onslaught but we just about prevailed on a scoreline of 4- 7 to 1- 12. They will play Enniscrone in the final. Congratulations to Tubbercurry GAA U12 hurler Niamh Brouder who won Gold in Sligo Community Games Long Puck competition for Tubbercurry/ Cloonacool on Saturday and will represent Sligo at the national finals in August. Our U14 feile ladies had a wonderful weekend in Cavan. Even though the results didn’t go their way they thoroughly enjoyed the experience and would like to thank their hosts Gowna for their hospitality. They would also like to thank their sponsors and it was wonderful to see them visit each sponsor before they departed to thank them. A ‘ Thank You’ goes a long way. BEST OF LUCK to Sligo seniors, minors and ladies who are in action during the week. The talent is there. Lets hope that the will to win is far greater than the fear of losing.

CLOONACOOL

PRIDE of place this week goes to the boy’s team from St. Michael’s National School who won the Cumman na mBunscol Co. Shield Final on Thursday evening of last week in Markievicz Park. They brought home the county title to their school, club, and parish after a marvellous contest against Highpark National School, where they all excelled in the skills of the game. There is great hope for the club in the future as we watch this group of players develop further, and move up through the underage ranks. Congratulations to each and every one of them and their Teachers and Coaches. The panel are made up of the following - Diarmuid Henry, Kyle Maloney,( capt) Kevin Carnahan, Lucas Calvey, Callum Neary, Michael Clifford, Stephen Mooney, Eamon Byrne, Kealon Moylan, Zach Clarke, Odhran Gallagher, Michael Gallagher, Rian Martin, Zac Brennan, Callum Rowley Hopkins, and Mike Quinn. ST MARY’S

OUR Under 9 boys took part in a blitz with molaise gales and drumcliffe on Wednesday evening last at Kent Park. Our first game against molaise gales was a keenly contested match with very little between the teams. Both sides kicked some fine scores. All the team contributed to the game with Notable performances from Evan Rooney, Keith Gray Gilgunn and Marc Clifford. Our second game against Drumcliffe was a fast moving entertaining encounter. The pace and movement of the drumcliffe team forced our lads to work very hard and that they did right to the final whistle. Again all 12 players contributed with great distribution from Darragh Keane who manned the goals, and fine contributions from Conor O’Heihr and Aaron Keane. This group continue to work hard every week at training and have a lot to look forward to in the coming months. Keep up the practice! This week underage football concentrated at U14 level for both girls and boys. Our U14 girls put on their best performance of the season so far when advancing past St Molaise in the A league quarter finals. The U14 boys had the honour of representing the County at Feile and had a fantastic time courtesy of their host club and played some incredible matches. Feile is an experience that these lads will always remember and they did themselves proud. Winning the 3 games in their group, the highlight was undoubtedly the win against Cuala from Dublin, the group favourites. Our lads dug deep and emerged victorious by the minimum margin on a score of 3- 03 to 3- 02, with the winning goal coming in the last minute from the boot of Cormac Niland. This competition is relentless as you progress through the stages and the lads again gave their all in the quarter final against Gaultier of Waterford. Although scoring freely, our opponents took the tie by a point ( 2- 06 to 1- 08). Well done to our boys and their management team. Our U14 division 3 side had their league semi- final against St Pats on Friday night and while missing a few lads who were in the Feile squad, they played fantastic football but could not progress as a stronger St Pats side on the night took the semi by 3- 10 to 2- 08. Best wishes to senior ladies players Karen Maloney and Sarah McMoreland in the Connaught final against Leitrim in castlebar this Sunday. Our Senior men’s played Drumcliffe on Sunday & won by a point with a last minute 45 from Fintan. They progress to play Tourlestrane in the semi final of the Kiernan cup next weekend.

ST JOHN’S

BART “Batty” Rooney RIP ST Johns Gaa club this week lost a most loyal supporter with the sad passing of Bart “Batty” Rooney, father of Fr Noel and Declan and grandfather of our players David, Mark and Niall. Batty was a prominent figure at most St Johns matches, but especially when his grandsons were playing and there was no prouder man than he anytime that David represented the Sligo senior team. We extend sympathy to his family at this sad time. The club also extends sympathy to Nuala Flanagan and the Cogan family, Riverstown, on the sudden death of baby Cooper Cogan, grand- nephew of Nuala.

Our senior team had another fine victory on Sunday in the Benson Cup Group 2 when they travelled to Geevagh and defeated the home side on a scoreline of 0- 9 to 1- 16 , having led by 0- 10 to 0- 4 at half time. This was a much improved performance and qualifies the team for the semi final against Castleconnor which will take place next Sunday July 2nd at 1pm in Stenson Park, Carraroe. We look forward to your support. The panel on duty was C Jordan; E Roche, F Murphy, S Kilcawley; R Fahy, N Walsh, K Sweeney( 0- 1); J Murphy, D Rooney( 0- 6); C Keaney, B Mc Gowan( 1- 4), M Rooney( 0- 1); C Greene, R Mc Manus( 0- 2), F Greenan( 0- 2); D Smith , A Kerr. Because of the Benson Cup semi final and Sligo’s senior team game the Div 4 fixtures listed for this weekend have been postponed till 29/ 30 th July

Now that the Leaving Cert exams are over the Div 3 league continues with an away fixture against Drumcliffe / Rosses Point in Oxfield Park on Fri 30th with a 7.00 throw- in time.

Best Wishes to Charlie Harrison and his Sligo senior team colleagues when they take on Meath in Pairc Tailtean on Saturday evening next in the All Ireland Qualifiers. ENNISCRONE/ KILGLASS

WE have been overwhelmed with the generosity of the local community and indeed beyond in our fundraising efforts for the new Indoor Astro Turf complex. We still require € 5000 more to hit our target, and anyone who wishes to sponsor a block or a brick can visit our website or contact any committee member. Our intermediate team secured an important win over Tourlestrane in Division Three last Sunday evening in Quigabar. Only a single point separated the sides at the finish, 2- 14 to 2- 13 after a cracking contest. Tourlestrane utilised several senior squad members and the sides were locked together at the break at 1- 8 apiece, but our lads fought hard to secure the result. They have a break in action next weekend - training continues during the week. The Enniscrone- Kilglass/ Easkey minor team return to league action on Friday evening when they host Curry in Quigabar at 7pm. Our U- 16s play St Mary’s tomorrow evening ( Monday) at 7pm in Quigabar. Our U- 14s had a fantastic weekend at Feile in Ballinagh, Co Cavan. They won two group games against Ballinagh and Mountnugent to qualify for the cup quarter- final, but fell to a strong St Patrick’s Óg side from Longford in the last 8. It was an absolutely fantastic weekend and we extend a heartfelt thanks to Ballinagh GAA club for their terrific hospitality and friendship throughout the weekend. Our players acquitted themselves very well and did the club and county proud on the national stage. We thank Johnny Mullaney our bus driver, sponsors Ken Foley of Supermacs for the team gear and Milo Tuffy ( Milo’s and Gala) for refreshments for the team, and Michael Duffy who was physio for the weekend. Well done to the management team of John Paul Carden and Brian Coleman too on their work with the players and organising the weekend so well. On the domestic scene earlier this week, the lads qualified for the Division Two Shield final with an excellent 6- 10 to 2- 19 over Shamrock Gaels in Coola. Details of the final fixture will be made available shortly. Best wishes to Ciaran O’Dowd, Josh Ellis, Eoin Hallinan and all the Sligo minors in their Connacht Championship clash with Leitrim on Wednesday evening.
