SHOW LAUNCHED
Sligo/ Leitrim/ Donegal/ Cavan TD, Tony McLoughlin was among a good attendance present at the official launch of the 2017 Manorhamilton Show, which recently took place in the Bee Park Community Centre.
Welcoming everyone to the launch Show Assistant treasurer, Hugh McGurrin noted that the revived Manorhamilton Show would be taking place on Saturday, July 22, in the Bee Park for a 17th successive occasion, including the cancelled 2001 Show that didn’t take place due to a foot and mouth disease outbreak countrywide that year.
Speaking at the launch, Manorhamilton Show chairperson Linda Slevin announced that the Show’s main sponsors again this year would be Connolly and McDonald Monumentals. Ms Slevin paid tribute to all the show stewards who, year in and year out, do a magnificent job in running what is Manorhamilton’s main annual visitor event.
STONEY WOODS
The Stoney Woods Festival is a novel three- day music and arts community that takes place in Kiltyclogher from this Friday, June 30, till Sunday, July 3.
The headlining acts at the Stoney Woods Festival include Declan O’Rourke, Mick Blake, Free Speaking Monkey along with many others. In it second year, the Festival’s main aim is to celebrate life and keep alive the memory of those gone before while it is also an exceptional family and community centred event.
Meantime the sponsored charities supported by this weekend’s Festival are STOP Suicide, Ellies Retreat and Cancer Care West. The festival organisers are looking forward to seeing many people coming to enjoy all the music, singing, etc., that’s taking place to Kiltyclogher over the three days.
ÁRAS ACTS
Lurganboy featured prominently in Áras an Uachtaráin recently when the president of Ireland, Michael D. Higgins hosted the annual Bloomsday Garden Party.
Young Lurganboy poet Stephen Murphy and nationally highly rated Lurganboy actress Deirdre O’Meara entertained the Áras guests during the Garden Party, which started at 1.30 p. m. Introducing Stephen and Deirdre, MC RTÉ’s Mary Kennedy quipped that there must be something special in the waters around Lurganboy since the talented duo hailed from the North Leitrim village.
WINNING TRIO
When the recent North Leitrim Men’s Group progressive ‘ 25’ card drive took place in the Bee Park Community Centre a trio of the event’s top prize winners was declared at the end after Kathleen, McDermott, Frank McGourty and Martin Feely finished level on equal scores.
Ted Rooney claimed the progressive ‘ 25’ card drive’s second prize behind Kathleen, Frank and Martin. The progressive ‘ 25’ card drive’s table prize went to Micheál Rooney. The first, second and third raffle prizes were won, respectively, by Pat Love, Sylwia McCaffrey and Frank McGourty, who had earlier had taken a third share in the progressive ‘ 25’ card drive’s top prize.
GOLDEN JUBILEE
Congratulations to former Glenfarne and Cloonclare- Killasnett curate in Glencar, Fr Fintan McKiernan, now parish priest in Derrylin, who celebrated the golden jubilee of his ordination to the priesthood on Sunday morning, June 18, with a special Mass in Derrylin, after which refreshments were served in the local St Ninnidh’s Primary School.
