-

A 27-year-old man was arrested by Gardaí after a number of 999 calls were made, Sligo District Court heard.

Gavin Kilgallon of St Edward’s Terrace admitted an offence under the Public Order Act at Ash Lane on February 10 th last.

Inspector Paul Kilcoyne said Gardaí had received a number of 999 calls at 4.20am with regard to a house disturbance in the Ballinode area and there were reports of criminal damage having been caused and a knife involved.

Several units responded to the incident and as Gardaí went to the scene they saw three men fleeing along Ash Lane. They were all searched but no knife was found. Kilgallon became verbally abusive and threatened to headbutt a Garda and was arrested. He has 58 previous convictions, the last being on January 19 th last when he received 240 hours of community service for criminal damage and public order offences.

Ms Laura Spellman, solicitor (defending) said it had been ‘Rag Week’ and there was a lot of alcohol on board but the defendant hadn’t drank to the same extent since and was complying with the community service order.

Judge Kevin Kilrane ordered a Probation Report for September 14 th with a view to the defendant carrying out a further 200 hours of community service.

This would be imposed instead of a six month jail term if he is found suitable.
