Tourlestrane’s Pat part of team in Mizen-Malin trek
AN eight-man team of cyclists completed a non-stop journey from Mizen to Malin Head in under 24 hours recently.
Among the cyclists was Pat Murtagh from Tourlestrane, who was praised for his efforts in fundraising.
Alan Heaney, from the Swinford Cycling Club, said: “I led a team of 8 like-minded cyclists on a huge challenge of cycling 600km in under 24 hours non-stop from Mizen Head (Cork) to Malin head (Donegal).
“It actually took us 23 hours and 20 minutes, so we finished 40 mins ahead of schedule. The trip was self-funded and all funds collected are for the Mayo Roscommon Hospice Foundation - we have raised close to €20,000 which is phenomenal. “One of the cyclists was Pat Murtagh, a good Sligo man and I want to thank Pat and all those who donated so generously from the Sligo region.”
