ST MOLAISE GAELS
St Molaise Gaels Club congratulate Mona McSharry on her thrilling success in the European Swimming championships in the last week. 3 medals won including two gold while setting new national records at the same time are remarkable achievements for such a talented and hardworking young lady who is greatly admired by all in our community. Well done Mona. We are all very proud of you and congratulations also to your supportive family and your coaches. The breath of talent in our community was further underlined by medal success in the national athletic championships at the weekend for Christopher O’Donnell and Kieran Elliott. Last Tuesday evening June 27th our two U12 Boys squads were at home to Coolera/Strandhill in the Division I and III Leagues. Our older group lost out in the last two minutes of a fine game but produced one of their best displays of the season. The younger squad continued their unbeaten run and remain top of the Division III table. On this Wednesday evening our U8 and U10 Boys are scheduled to entertain St John’s at 7.00pm. On this Friday evening next July 7th our Minor Boys have a 7th round Division I League fixture away to Eastern Harps at 7.00pm.
Our senior men produced an excellent team performance to defeat Coolaney/Mullinabreena by 1-11 to 0-06 at home in the Kiernan Cup semi final on Sunday last. Both sides might have been considered understrength with a number of players resting injuries ahead of the championship campaign . Gaels led 0-05 to 0-03 at half time and it was a strong defensive display that set the foundation for an encouraging win. John Gilsenan scored the games only goal and it was fitting reward for a fine individual display with Keelan Waters and Alan McLoughlin also prominent. Gaels will play Tourlestrane in the final.

With the children’s ages ranging from 10 down to 5 everyone got stuck in and displayed their fantastic skills that they’re being taught each Saturday morning!

WELL done to Anne Marie Frizzell who coordinated the whole event and thank you very much to all the visiting clubs and those who helped in any way from preparing pitches to making tea for our visitors! A very enjoyable morning was had by all.

Final score Bunnanadden/Ballymote 3:09 to Geevagh/ St. Michael’s 4:12.

THERE was no winner of the lotto on Monday June 26th .The numbers drawn were 6, 7, 23, and 27. Tickets are available from Keane’s Supermarket, Bree’s Bar, Margaret’s Café and also from Joe Gildea. The draw takes place every Monday in the clubhouse. The jackpot now stands at €2400. THERE were mixed fortunes for our under 12 boys’ teams last week. They travelled to Grange to play Molaise Gaels. The Div. 1 team recorded another victory, winning by three points. The Div 3 team had it tougher and went down to a much stronger home side. Their next fixture is July 11th at home to Shamrock Gaels. IT wasn’t to be for our U10 mixed, nor our U12 girls in the Connacht Finals of the Community Games. The under 10s suffered a heart-breaking defeat in the semi-final, losing to a last minute goal. It was a gutsy performance from these young boys, who travelled with a depleted squad. Congrats on getting so far. The under 12 girls lost out on the gold medal by a single point to a very strong Manorhamilton/ Dromahair team. Their journey to the final included a trip to Furbo last Monday when they defeated their hosts in a titanic battle in atrocious conditions, followed by a semi-final victory over Roscommon champions. A slow start in the final was to prove costly, but they battled back from being ten points behind to lose by the narrowest margin 4-08 to 6-03. Well done girls on winning silver.... a fantastic achievement. Our u16 boys played their final league game against Shamrock Gaels in Ransboro Park on Monday 27th June. Despite the wet conditions this was an open and entertaining game. The first half was even until a goal each from Fiachra Staunton and Lee Wilson left us ahead 2.06 to 0.02 at half time. Shamrock Gaels started the second half well and it took some good defending from Rory Mc Veigh, Orin Mitchell and Jack Molloy to keep them at bay. Further goals from Lee Wilson, Fiachra Staunton, Tristan Gilligan and points from Keelan Harte helped us secure a deserved victory. Final score Coolera/Strandhill 5-10 Shamrock Gaels 2-10. Team and scorers: Cian Connell, Orin Mitchell, Rory Mc Veigh, Jack Murphy, Jack Molloy, Aidan Davey, Fiachra Staunton (2-00), Tristan Gilligan (1-02), Josh Gilligan, Keelan Harte (0-05(1f,1 45), Sam Mc Dermott, Stephen Lynch, Liam Gilligan. Subs used : Lee Wilson(2-03), Jim Henehan, Cormac Henehan. The boys play Ballymote/Bunannaddan tomorrow (Wednesday) in Ransboro at 7.00.
