Man gets a chance to avoid a conviction

-

A father-of-three who brandished an empty beer bottle “like a club” in Collooney last year has escaped a prison sentence.

Rory Boyd (35) of Woodstream, Collooney, appeared before Judge Kevin Kilrane at Sligo District Court last week to see if he was suitable for Community Service.

At a previous court sitting last May he was charged with a Public Order offence on Main Street Collooney on 2nd May 2016.

The court heard then that Boyd was seen on CCTV leaving a pub with a bottle of beer, deliberately emptying it and walking up and down the street aggressively inviting people to fight.

Last Thursday his defence solicitor Mr Eddie Henry told the Judge that Boyd was “actively participating in Community Service” since January, had kept sober and was the primary carer for three young children.

Judge Kilrane adjourned the case to 28th June 2018 and if there were no further offences he would apply the Probation Offenders Act and dismiss the charges.
