Awaken your inner child with a BIG style on street Play project

-

Walking through the streets of Sligo this Saturday could well inspire your inner child.

Don’t be surprised if you come across some strategically placed hopscotch or snakes on ladders games along the footpaths. This creative initiative to inspire play on the streets is part of the Cairde Festival and is open to all ages.

Spokeswoman Tara McGowan says: “Inspired by the enchanting 1988 film BiG (starring Tom Hanks) this on-street PLaY project seeks to awaken your inner child.”

PLaY indicators will be on the footpaths or hanging from trees and include some favourite old time street games such as skipping, hopscotch, tug-o-war with less energetic games also on offer such as draughts and snakes and ladders.

Gillian Ni Chaiside, founder of Sligo’s popular PARKing Day is excited to invite people to slow down for a short while, PLaY together and enjoy some quality time whilst going about their daily business.

She says: “PLaY is a such wonderfully attractive and reassuring way to relate to your environment. While BiG Street PLaY is essentially a PLaYful and inclusive on-street event, it is also an invaluable opportunity for us to explore how people interact with the urban landscape and each other. So why not join in the fun at the BiG Street PLaY at Street fest as part of Cairde Sligo Arts Festival this Saturday July 15 th in Stephen’s St carpark from 2 to 6pm.”
