Kiera hopes work will inspire peace
Sligo based artist Kiera O’ Toole has been selected from a nationwide call-out along with seven other artists to work together on a multidisciplinary and intercultural project about the topic of migration.
The project which is called the New Voices of Ireland Series 2017, was launched in Ashford Heritage Centre, Wicklow, last week and has been curated by an arts organisation called the Centre for Creative Practices (CFCP).
Kiera who is from Coolaney village told us: “It’s an honor to have been selected for the project as there was over one hundred applications.... With recent political developments in the Britain and the USA, immigration is such a hot topic of debate at the moment.
“I hope that my work exposes the irrationality’s of peoples fears when it comes to these issues.”
Kiera will collaborate with the other selected artists over the coming months with the final project to go on display during Culture Night, Friday, September 22, 2017 in Dublin. The group are also planning on touring the project nationwide.
The selected artists joining Kiera for the project are Olga Dziubak from Poland; Mark Lawlor from the UK; El Putnam from USA, Eleanor Lawler from Kilkenny; Mirjana Renedulic from Croatia; and Csilla Toldy from Hungry.
A young Irish film maker Annika Cassidy is documenting the project. To find out more about the project you can visit the Centre for Creative Practices website: www.cfcp.ie
