Sligo Rovers summer camps begin

-

THE 2017 Sligo Rovers Summer Camps sponsored by the Sligo Champion began last week, as droves of eager young kids made their way to The Showgrounds for a fun filled week of football, laughter and exercise. The Sligo Champion visited the camps on Wednesday last, and it was clear to see the fantastic set-up and organisation of the camp and everybody in attendance was truly enjoying themselves. The Sligo Rovers players visited both the camp and the breakfast club, for chats, autographs and photographs. This went down extremely well with all of the kids who got the opportunity to meet their idols. Kyle McFadden was a guest appearance at the newly formed Breakfast club which starts each morning at 8.30am. The popular initiative involves the kids getting their breakfast in the Showgrounds, followed by indoor and outdoor games and also presentations on the importance of nutrition in sport. Shane Crossan, camp co-ordinator, spoke of his delight at how well the camps have begun. He said: “We could not have started the 2017 Summer Camps any better. We had 100 kids for week 1, which is a new record I’m glad to say. The kids on the camp were a credit to their families as they were very well behaved all week and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I must give a special mention to all of the coaches on the camp, they are doing a fantastic job and treat each and every child on the camp like their own”. Kyle McFadden who gave a talk on nutrition to the kids at the breakfast club also spoke to the Sligo Champion about the camps. He added: “I was delighted to give a talk at the Breakfast club on week 1 of the camps. It’s fantastic to see kids eating healthy and paying attention to the importance of nutrition. The breakfast club, set up by Shane, is a fantastic idea and has been really well received. I would encourage everyone to take part if at all possible”. Manager Gerard Lyttle said: “It was great to see all of the kids enjoying themselves so much. It brings a buzz to the place for the summer. I was delighted to meet the kids at the breakfast club and look forward to welcoming more kids in the weeks to come”.
