Bohan-Marren Sinn Féin group to honour Michael J. Marren
The Bohan-Marren Sinn Féin working group covering the Ballymote, Gurteen and Coolaney areas, has announced details of their forthcoming Commemoration honouring Cmdt. Michael J. Marren, who died on 12 July 1921 – the day following the truce.
Marren’s feats are almost legendary in this local area where he grew up and commanded Irish forces during the war of independence.
The commemoration will take place at Mount Irwin Cemetery at 3 p.m. on Sunday 16 July 2017.
Mount Irwin cemetery is signposted on the Gurteen-Tubbercurry Road—1 km from Gurteen.
This year’s oration will be delivered by Matt Carthy, MEP, who is the Sinn Féin MEP for the Midlands North West region.
