Irish diaspora brought together by lacrosse

-

The daughter of a Tubbercurry native recently came face to face with the daughter of an Antrim native at a lacrosse game the whole way across the Atlantic Ocean in New Jersey.

Niamh Brett, whose father Tom moved to the US in 1973, lives in Southern New Jersey, near Philadelphia.

She was captain of the lacrosse team at Gateway High School, Woodbury Heights.

In her last game of the season, Gateway plated against Triton High School, whose captain Ashleigh Hume is a daugher of Robert Hume, who hails from Lisburn, County Antrim.

It is certainly rare to see two daughters of two Irish immigrants captaining opposing lacrosse teams in the United States, or anywhere, the girls were happy to pose for a photograph afterwards to mark the occasion.
