Tubbercurry says ‘bin your chewing gum’

-

Tubbercurry last Friday launched its anti-gum litter campaign.

Having noticed some chewing gum left at the new playground in the town, President of the Tubber Chamber of Commerce, Geraldine Brennan decided to look into ways to help ease the problem.

“The event went very well. There were a good few kids and families arrived and we had lots of children from the creche at Lollipop Lane. We had the eco-car giving people lifts around the town,” she told The Sligo Champion.

“We had Bridie, our senior citizen who got a lift to the day centre for lunch, accompanied by Cllr. Dara Mulvey.”

Geraldine was delighted with the response to the event and the visit of the taskforce.

“The playground is so new and we’re diligent about litter. There’s no bin in it, it’s tidied every evening. It’s maintained by the children and parents. And I was looking at ways to stop the chewing gum, because I noticed a good bit of it.

“So I saw then about the ani-litter and graffiti programme with Sligo County Council, so I contacted them and the taskforce were more than happy to come along. They were very happy with the group that turned up,” she added.
