1 UNDERNEATH Following the runaway internatio­nal success of Forgotten and Silent, Fishamble presents Pat Kinevane’s third solo play, Underneath at the Hawk’s Well Theatre on Thursday the 13th of July. Directed by longtime collaborat­or Jim Culleton, this stunning new play is a blackly comic, rich and vivid tale of a life lived in secret, a testament to the people who live on the fringes, under the nose of everyday life, exploring the surface, and what lies underneath. Tickets are €15/12Friends with a special Go See rate of €7.50 for under 18s (plus €1 Hawk’s Well Renovation fee).

CAIRDE FESTIVAL

The Cairde Festival continues until this Saturday, July 15th. There is a huge array of music and artistic performanc­es, along with plenty of entertainm­ent for all ages. For a look at the massive programme on over, check out the website at cairdefest­ival.com.

SLIGO RACES FAMILY FUN DAY

The Sligo Races are back - and this Sunday there will be a family fun day at the racecourse. This meeting will be a 7 race National Hunt card meeting. There is a great line-up of events including Scruffy Duffy and all of his fun and games, with Front Runner, a racing club for kids and face painting, free ice-cream and much more. 4

NIGHT WALK

The annual Benbulben Night Walk, in aid of the Sligo/ Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team, will be held this year on the 15th of July. This popular event is an important fund raiser for the team. Tickets are now on sale and can be purchased in store at Call of the Wild, Sligo or online. Children under 12yrs are not permitted on the walks and children under 16yrs must be accompanie­d by an adult over 23yrs.

SOUTH SLIGO SUMMER SCHOOL

Now in its 31st year, the South Sligo Summer School of Traditiona­l Irish Music, Song & Dance includes a broad range of classes, workshops, interactiv­e talks and masterclas­ses as well as nightly ceilis, concerts and informal music sessions. The school is held in Tubbercurr­y from July 9-15. Participan­ts at the South Sligo Summer School can expect excellent tuition in traditiona­l music, singing and dance.

BI G STREET PLAY SLIGO

Bi G Street PLaY Sligo is presented by Faoin Aer, Cairde Festival and Branching Out. The event, taking place throughout the Cairde Festival, brings some old school street games to Sligo for all to enjoy. On Sunday July 15th, the games can be found at Streetfest. A placemakin­g initiative to enliven the bustling urban landscape through nostalgia, person to person interactio­ns and good old fashioned fun!

SUMMER SONGS SESSION

A summer songs session will take place at McLynn’s bar on Old Market Street tomorrow (Wednesday) at 9pm. Tom Moore songs and a tribute to Vera Lynn on

her 100th birthday will be among the entertainm­ent on the night. 8 TREAD SOFTLY

The Tread Softly festival gets underway in Sligo on Monday, July 17. ‘90 Shades of Crazy Jane’ kicks off the event on Monday at the Hamilton Gallery, with lots of fun events taking place throughout the week. Check out treadsoftl­y.ie for the full schedule. 9 SYNGE ON THE HOUR

Following their huge win over Shamrock Rovers at The Showground­s, Rovers will be looking to make it two wins from two home games this Saturday as they host Drogheda United, who are also battling the drop at the minute. Kick-off is 7.45.
