Acting US Ambassador to visit Yeats Summer School
ACTING US Ambassador to Ireland Reece Smyth will visit Sligo this Thursday and Friday to attend the International Yeats Summer School.
He will attend the launch of the Yeats Summer School where he will meet with poet Paula Meehan, Caitríona Yeats (granddaughter of W.B. Yeats), and Chairman of Yeats Society Martin Enright. Mr Smyth will visit Yeats’ Grave and pay a visit to Lissadell House as part of his itinerary.
He’ ll also be hosted by Sligo County Council Cathaoirleach Councillor Séamus Kilgannon as well as visiting Abbott Ireland.
The Ohio native has been acting Ambassador since the departure of Ambassador Kevin O’Malley in January and will continue in this role until the arrival of a new Ambassador (which could be a while, according to US sources).
Mr Smyth attended the St. Patrick’s day events in Washington including the Oval Office meeting and Breakfast with the Vice President Mike Pence, who has Tubbercurry roots.
