‘DISRUPTIVE WORKS’ DONE
IRISH Water says a considerable portion of its more disruptive works in the city centre have now been completed and the focus is now turning to less congested areas.
Mains laying on Thomas Street, Teeling Street, St John Street, Castle Street, Smith’s Row and JFK Parade have been completed and only minor works on footpaths are currently being carried out in these areas. Final road reinstatement works on these streets will be completed later in the year.
Works are now progressing on other less congested areas of the city including Pearse Road, Ash Lane, and Duck Street over the coming weeks.
Traffic management plans, in consultation with the County Council and An Garda Síochána will continue to be implemented where necessary and advance warning signage will be erected
Irish Water has thanked the businesses and residents for their “continued patience and co-operation while the Sligo water mains rehabilitation works are ongoing. This project represents an investment of €6.8 million by Irish Water.
The project involves the replacement and rehabilitation of approximately 8.7km of ageing water mains, the installation of 1.5km of foul and storm sewers in the Pearse Road area and the replacement of all service connections including any lead services encountered.
The project will also deliver financial savings over the medium and long term through reduced maintenance costs associated with the upgraded pipeline.
The project team will continue to notify the local community in advance of planned works in their areas and provide contact details should they have any queries.
Irish Water is committed to reducing network leakage to less than 38% by 2021 and this investment will help the utility to meet this target.
This project forms part of Irish Water’s investment plan.
Works have been prioritised to address the most critical issues in line with commitments outlined in Irish Water’s recently published Business Plan.
