It’s all in the name for Enniscrone

The people of Enniscrone want to change the official name of the west Sligo resort from Inishcrone which appears on local authority signs.

Following a meeting in the town recently hosted by the local development committee and backed by councillors, the local authority will now begin the process of formally changing the name to Enniscrone.

Director of Services, Dorothy Clarke told Monday’s meeting of the Ballymote/Tubbercurry Municipal District said legal advice was being sought with the matter likely to end up before a ministerial committee along with a local plebiscite. Ordinance survey maps was responsible for Inishcrone.
