Had stolen generator in caravan

-

A woman found with a stolen generator in Collooney last summer has been given a four month prison sentence, suspended for two years.

Theresa Harty (33) of Rossmanager Road, Sixmilebridge, Co. Clare pleaded guilty at Sligo District Court last Thursday to handling the stolen Honda EU 20i generator at Ballydrehid, Collooney, on July 29th 2016.

The court heard she has previous convictions from Ennis and Galway courts for theft and handling stolen property.

Her defence solicitor, Mr Mark Mullaney, told Judge Kilrane that the married mother of a young family did “have form”.

He said she was on holidays in Sligo when her caravan was searched by the Gardaí and the generator was found.

He said she initially maintained the generator belonged to her but entered a guilty plea “on reflection.”

“She is concerned for her young family. Her husband is not long out of prison and she would wish her family to be reunited for as long as possible,” said Mr Mullaney to the judge.

Judge Kilrane said a Probation Report was not necessary and Community Service was “not really appropriate.”

He sentenced Harty to four months in prison, suspended for two years on condition she not be convicted of any indictable offence for two years, stay out of Sligo for the next two years and not engage in any stealing or handling of stolen goods.
