Challenged others to fight

-

A man who was seen trying to start a fight outside a Sligo night club was fuelled by alcohol, the District Court heard last Thursday.

Thomas Hammond (23) of Rathbraughan Park, pleaded guilty to threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour at 1.40am in Stephen Street Car Park last October 2nd.

Inspector Paul Kilcoyne told the court that Hammond was seen “shouting aggressively at people exiting the night club.”

“He gestured towards people to fight. He was about to move away when he challenged another man to a fight and was subsequently arrested,” he said.

Hammond, who had no previous convictions for Public Order did have convictions for the Misuse of Drugs and two speeding convictions from Tullamore District Court in 2014.

Ms Laura Spellman, defending, told Judge Kilrane that her client “admittedly had alcohol on board which fuelled his behaviour.”

She said it was out of character for him as he suffers from epilepsy and hopes to start a college course and travel for work abroad.

Judge Kilrane warned Hammond that he shouldn’t be drinking while he was on medication for his epilepsy.

In view of his condition and what he suffers from, the judge convicted and fined him ¤200.
