Chip shop row
A “high level” club footballer has been convicted and fined for rowing outside a Sligo chip shop.
Thomas Meehan (28) of Roosky, Doocastle, Ballymote, appeared before the court charged with three Public Order offences at Market St, Sligo on May 29th.
Meehan pleaded guilty to threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour.
Inspector Paul Kilcoyne said Meehan was seen on CCTV instigating a row outside a chip shop on Market Street at 3.40am.
His defence solicitor Ms Laura Spellman said that it was Meehan’s first night out after a two month football drinking ban.
“He plays club football at a high level. He tells me he is very sorry for his behaviour,” she told the judge.
Judge Kilrane struck out two of the charges but convicted Meehan of the threatening and abusive offence and fined him ¤100.
