WHETHER Niall Carew will continue as Sligo manager next year still remains to be seen.

The Kildare man told the Sligo Champion yesterday afternoon that he was waiting to hear from the County Board, who were meeting last night it’s understood.

Carew, who has been at the helm since 2014, said that he has spoken to his players and they told him they are happy to go forward with him as manager.

He said that it all depends on what the County Board want.

Carew added: “There isn’t really much to report. I haven’t officially met with the County Board, there is a County Board meeting tonight (Monday).

“Whether that will have a bearing I don’t know yet. I have yet to sit down with them,” he explained,

The manager said he has met with his players however.

“It was absolutely important to speak to the players to see if they are on board and the general consensus from them is that they are happy to go forward. It was important to get an indication from them but it’s the County Board’s decision.”

Carew said he also has to finish speaking with his family regarding the position.

“I’ve to finish the conversation with my family and I’m waiting for the County Board to get back to me, so I don’t know what the story is.

“I have to meet with the County Board, sit down with them and see if we are on the same wavelength,” he added.
