Keash road needs to be made safer

-

Work needs to be done to improve safety at a busy tourist junction near the Carrowkeel Tombs. That’s according to Cllr Dara Mulvey who raised the issue at the July Council meeting.

He asked the Council to make it safer for motorists to exit a side road out from Keash on to R295 the main Ballymote to Boyle Road.

Cllr Mulvey said telegraph poles were blocking the sight lines of motorists.

“It’s down to improving the sight lines before there’s a fatality,” he warned.

Senior Executive Engineer Paddy Hughes reported back that such works would involve setting back boundary fences.

While he said there is no funding available for work at the Keash junction this year, it will be included for consideration in a 2018 funding application.

Cllr Mulvey hoped that a proposal could be made to secure funding and said he had spoken to landowners in the area.
