Fruit van driver gets a chance

-

A fruit and veg van driver has avoided a speeding conviction after handing in ¤300 to Sligo District Court.

Danny McCarthy (62) of Doorly Park, was detected driving at 73kph in a 50kph at Ballincar on 19 th September 2016.

His case was first heard 13th July where his defence solicitor Mr Joe Keyes told Judge Kevin Kilrane that McCarthy had left the speeding fine with his company (Total Produce) to pay but an administrative assistant submitted the fine a day too late.

Judge Kilrane ordered him to return to court with “meaningful reasons” why he shouldn’t convict.

Mr Keyes last week then handed up ¤300 which will go to charity.

Judge Kilrane said that in view of McCarthy’s age and the fact that he had no previous convictions, he’d strike out the case.
