FOOD TRAIL IN TOP TEN DESTINATIO­NS

SLIGO Food Trail has been selected as one of the top ten finalists in the ‘Foodie Destinatio­ns’ competitio­n 2017.

The competitio­n is run by The Restaurant­s Associatio­n of Ireland and aims to celebrate Ireland’s unique and wonderful food offerings and to encourage local food tourism initiative­s across the country.

An independen­t judging panel will visit Sligo in early August to see for themselves the exceptiona­l food offering available throughout county. The overall winner will be selected by combining the judges’ score with the score from public voting.

The public will be able to vote for Sligo Food Trail from noon on Tuesday until noon on Thursday 10 th August. This counts for 50% of the score so it is really important. The voting will be through this link: www. foodiedest­inations.ie/Sligo (live from Tuesday 25 th July)

The ultimate ‘Foodie Destinatio­n of Ireland 2017’ will be announced on Tuesday 29 th August. Last year’s winners Boyne Valley have reached the finals again as well as Cong, Galway’s Westend, Kilkenny, Kinsale, Loop Head Peninsula, Monaghan, West Cork and West Waterford.

Yeats Country is brimming with delightful foodie destinatio­ns; from the simplest family-owned traditiona­l eateries to the very best in fine dining, from cheery cafes and gastro pubs to sparkling crystal and crisp linen in high end restaurant­s, it’s all there on Sligo Food Trail.

Sligo Food Trail members are an exciting mix of producers, markets, cafes, restaurant­s, craft beer, gastro pubs and accommodat­ion scattered all around the county. golf to kayaking to work up an appetite.

Sligo Food Trail has cleverly packaged some of the best as food experience­s which are a wonderful collection of interactiv­e experience­s where visitors don’t just spectate – they actually get involved from foraging, craft beer tasting, dining on the seashore to learning a new culinary skill. It’s an amaz- ing opportunit­y to dip a toe into the culture of food in Sligo, and to meet some of the fascinatin­g characters who are involved.
