One month jail term for stealing perfumes

A mother-of-three heroin addict who stole two perfumes from a Sligo pharmacy has been given a one month prison sentence.

Nina Comerford came before Sligo District Court last week, to plead guilty to stealing two perfumes worth ¤170 from Lannon’s Pharmacy, Pearse Road on December 15 th 2016.

The 28-year-old from Ballyfermo­t, is currently serving a 9 month sentence in Mountjoy Prison for another offence and has 78 previous conviction­s.

Inspector Donal Sweeney said nearly all of them were for theft. “Why do you persist in stealing?” Judge Kilrane asked Comerford.

“I had a heroin addiction,” she replied. She said she was mother to a six-month-old baby and two children aged 5 and 12 years.

She said her aunt was caring for her three children. She told the judge she had her name down to go to Coolmine Drug Rehab Centre.

Judge Kilrane convicted and sentenced Comerford to one month in prison to start immediatel­y.
