Man told to bring proof of motor tax to court

-

A 42 year old man charged with having no motor tax on his car last November has been told to bring evidence into court to prove he has paid the tax arrears.

Martin Sweeney of Crozon Park, Sligo was charged with non-display of the tax disc at Chapel Hill on November 4 th 2016.

Taking the witness stand, Sweeney insisted he didn’t receive the fixed penalty notice in the post.

“I’ve lost post in the past as well,” he told Inspector Donal Sweeney.

“Like what, how do you know you lost post if you didn’t get it?” asked the inspector.

“Like catalogue forms. You fill them out and then get nothing back,” said Sweeney. Judge Kilrane convicted him. The court heard Sweeney has previous convictions for Public Order, drunk driving and other road traffic matters.

Sweeney said he paid the back tax a few days later.

Judge Kilrane adjourned the case to this Thursday and told him to bring proof to court.
