Victory for Sligo Tri Club members in Ballyshannon
SLIGO Triathlon Club’s Conor Melvin and Heather Foley took convincing wins last weekend at the Mullaghmore Triathlon Club promoted Lakeside Triathlon in Ballyshannon.
Conor who is still only a junior took his first win on the triathlon circuit with overall victory, Conor lead out of the lake swim in a time of 9.52 and maintained his lead with a strong bike leg then secured the overall win with an impressive 19.06 final 5km run and had nearly a minute over the 2nd male finisher.
Next week Conor will race in the Ballina Triathlon where he will not only be favourite for the junior category but now overall victory.
In the ladies race, Heather Foley returning from injury was second lady out of the water, on the bike leg Heather who is the current national sprint distance, middle distance and duathlon champion used her experience to pace her effort and came off the bike 46 seconds behind Laura Tighe but used her running legs to rapidly close the gap within the first 3km and pushed on to win comfortably.
Next week Heather also races in Ballina before travelling to Sweden the following week as part of the Irish triathlon team for a European Cup race and then will return to compete in the Irish standard distance championships on the 12th August.
