GAA DIGEST: Minor finals take place across county

LAST Thursday saw the league finals taking place at Minor level throughout the county.

In the Minor A League Final which was played at Bunninadde­n Community Park as Curry just about the better of Shamrock Gaels who were hoping to make it back to back league titles.

In terrible conditions both sides played some great football but Sean Davey managed side just done enough to come out on top winning 1-13 - 0-11.

After the A Final in Bunninadde­n the B Final was played as Tourlestra­ne were far too strong on the day for Coolera Standhill as they eased to victory.

Meanwhile at the Sligo centre of excellence St. John’s played Castleconn­or in the C Final as the North Sligo side played some excellent football against former county player side Eamon Cawley whose team were no match for Johns on the day winning 3-17 - 1-5. Finally the A shield Final also took place in what turned out to really competitiv­e game which could of went either way but Owenmore Gaels just enough to get over the line against Tubbercurr­y winning 1-8 to 1-6 in the end.

On Sunday afternoon the U-16 Shield Final took place in real high scoring affair as Eastern Harps just done enough against the home side Coolera Strandhill.

On Friday evening the U-14 championsh­ip got underway.

Our County hurlers just came up short against Donegal in the All Ireland C Final which was played last weekend we like thank the players and management for the effort they put in during the year.

On Tuesday Leo Kenny Cup goes forward to the Quarter final stages. St. Marys travel to Aghamore in Mayo. While it’s an All Sligo pairing as Tourlestra­ne host Shamrock Gaels. Round 3 of the Hurling Championsh­ip takes place this week as Calry/ St. Josephs vs Coolera Standhill, Tourlestra­ne take on Naomh Eoin and Western Gaels host Tubbercurr­y.

On Sunday the final round of division 1 games take place while the there are two league finals down for decision the Division 3 final will take at 12 noon start for the meeting of Ballymote and Enniscrone/Kilglass at Tourlestra­ne.

The division 2 final will take place at Markievicz Park at 6pm for the meeting of Coolera Strandhill and Geevagh.
