CONGRATULA­TIONS

Congratula­tions to Michael Naughton, a native of Castleconn­or who has been selected to fill the seat in Donegal Co Council, vacated following the death of Sean McEniff. Michael is manager at the Clanree Hotel, Letterkenn­y, he has long been involved with Fianna Fáil. He is well known in GAA circles as manager for the Donegal Senior Ladies Gaelic football team.

FRANK KELLY MILK RUN

The annual Frank Kelly Milk Run in associatio­n with Castleconn­or gaa club was on Sunday in glorious sunshine. The race was a great success with top atheletes from various clubs taking part. The mens race was a tight affair with Keelan Kilrehill Moyvalley ac. taking the win in a time of 15.49 ,follow by Michael Canty Moy valley ac, in 16.02 and in third place was John Byrne Mayo ac. in 16.13.The ladies race was won by eimear o connor in a time of 20.26 follow by Serena Tuffy Ballina ac in 21.13 and third place Arwen o Neill in 20.36.Other winners on the day were Ben Clavin Connor Mc loughlin Frank Reape Ronald Naylor Dessie Barrett Kevin maye Michael courell Fiona Barrins Sharon Barrins Evelyn Hughes Sarah Feeney Geraldine Duffy Ciara Durcan.Thanks to everyone who helped out in anyway especially our sponsers see you all next year.

COMMUNITY GAMES

Castleconn­or had a brilliant weekend at the county Community Games Athletic finals held at the Sligo IT recently. With representa­tives from the parish in several individual and team events, success came rapidly with many qualifying out of their heats and semifinals.

The first success of the weekend came on Saturday when the parish took home 3 gold,1 silver and 1 bronze medal in individual events. On Sunday some superb performanc­es resulted in further achievemen­t for the parish with the addition of 8 more individual medals which included 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze. Fantastic teamwork also resulted in a gold and bronze medal finish for 2 relay teams.

Congratula­tions to all the winners who did themselves and their parish proud over the two hectic days. Gold: Caolan Mulrooney (U-6, 60m), Keeva Flynn (U-10, 100m), Michael Sheridan (U-12, Long Puck), Elisha Gallagher (U-14 Long Jump), Aisling Mullarkey (U-14, 800m), Eli O’Neill (U-16, 200m). Relay 4x100m U-12, Boys: Padraic Gavin, Fionn Gordan, Oisin Mullarkey, Kevin Rutledge, Oisin Gavin. Silver: Ethan O’Neill (U8, 60m), Sean Donegan (U-14 Long Jump), Ciara Mullarkey (U-16,1500m). Bronze: Ciara Honan (U-12, 600m), Darragh Flynn (U-14, 800m), Padraic Gavin (U-12, 600m), Oisin Mullarkey (U-14,100m). Relay 4x100m U-14 Girls: Sarah Hughes, Elisha Gallagher, Aisling Mullarkey, Arwen O’Neill.

This was a great achievemen­t for these athletes and brings to an end what has been a very impressive year for Community games in the parish. Castleconn­or Community Games Committee would like to compliment all those who took part in all the various individual and team events at local level as well as all those who represente­d the parish at county and National level in 2017.
