Banned over motor tax

-

A man who failed to show up in court with proof that he had paid his motor tax arrears has been banned from driving for a year.

Martin Sweeney (42) of Crozon Park, Sligo, was convicted on 20th July of driving without having his car taxed on Chapel Hill 4th November 2016.

He told Judge Kilrane that he paid the back tax a few days later and said he would bring proof back to court the following week.

However there was no sign of Sweeney at last week’s court sitting.

Judge Kilrane said: “He has not come to court. He gave evidence that I found was wrong and misleading.”

He convicted and fined Sweeney ¤300 and disqualified him from driving for one year.
