Dogged Clancy boxes for National title

-

DEAN Clancy came from behind to win the National Senior Cadet Championship on Friday night at the National Boxing Stadium. He boxed Paul Loonam from St Carthages Boxing Club in a thrilling encounter. The Offaly boxer started well landing rights against the counter punching Clancy and took the opening round. Clancy got a stern talking to in his corner from his dad during the break and bolted out of the corner and put his opponent under serious pressure with multiple attack combinations. It was now 1 round each. Loonam caught Clancy early with a solid right but the Sligo lad kept his cool and continued with his boxing, scoring very well in the last round. Clancy’s win puts him on the Irish team which head to Bulgaria in September. Ballinacarrow Boxing Club would like to thank their sponsors Provident Personal Credit Plc Sligo for their support.
