COOLERA/STRANDHILL

FOLLOWING the success of the GAA Cúl Camp our own club Summer Camp sponsored by New Ireland Assurance will be held at Ransboro from August 8th-11th for all 6-12 year olds. Further details and bookings can be got from Tommy Cradock on 0877866845.

Our under 12 girls suffered defeat at the hands of a very strong C.T. Gaels team last Friday in Ransboro Park. Although the girls started well and led thanks to an Eva White goal, the visitors responded quickly and were soon in the ascendancy. Trailing 4-07 to 3-01 at half time the girls never gave up and displayed their famous battling qualities right to the end led by Nessa O’ Sullivan, who was outstanding in defence, and Ava Griffin who made numerous fine saves in goals. Others to impress were Áine Harte, Susannah Gilligan and Lauren Healy, while Ellen Walsh and Clodagh Martyn worked tirelessly in attack. The team has a break now until they play Drumcliffe/Rosses Point in their final match on Friday 11th August. Team; Ava Griffin, Laoise McKenna, Susannah Gilligan, Anna McDaniel, Mary-Kate McPartland, Lisa Kilfeather, Aoife Gormley, Orna Murphy (2-01), Orlaith Beirne, Eva White (1-00), Úna Griffin, Ellen Walsh (0-02), Clodagh Martyn, Nessa O’ Sullivan, Lauren Healy, Áine Harte, Grace Bailey, Rachel Gallagher, Hannah Bohan, Lauren Dalton, Luna Sineoni. The senior hurlers made the short trip to Calry on Saturday evening to play reigning champions Calry/St. Joseph’s in the senior championship. Trailing at half time the boys put in a strong second half out-scoring their hosts by 0-10 to 1-04, with some fine long range points from Kevin Banks, Ronan Redmond, Mark Comerford, Eoin Comerford and Gary Cadden. This wasn’t enough however to turn the deficit around and we eventually lost 2-14 to 0-12. Team; Colm Scanlon, Aidan Coleman, Niall Cadden, Jonathon Porter (David Kilrehill), Kevin Banks (0-04), Ronan Redmond (0-02), Eoin Comerford (0-01), Conor Gillen (Fionn Morrissey), Mark Comerford (0-01), Kieran Prior (0-01), Thomas Moran (Seán Callaghan), Gary Cadden (0-03), Brian Tobin (Cathal Burke), Troy Hickey (Colin Parke). The Centre of Excellence was the venue for our under 8s and under 10s on Friday when they played Glencar/Manorhamilton in a series of challenge matches. It was great to see so many of our young players on the field, as four pitches were in use at one time. Well done to all concerned and a big thank you to those who helped in any way.

ENNISCRONE/KILGLASS

OUR intermediate team will have to do it all again in the Division Three league final after they showed tremendous spirit to claw back a seven-point deficit to salvage a draw at Tourlestrane last Sunday against Ballymote. Trailing 2-4 to 0-5 at half-time, the lads went 2-6 to 0-5 points down before launching a great in the closing stages with Donal Mullaney’s goal the key score to securing a 1-9 to 2-6 draw. Indeed, the lads could have snatched it having kicked some poor wides throughout the game but nonetheless, they will be delighted to get another chance after a poor display overall. Details of the replay at the time of writing were yet to be decided but when fixed your support would be greatly appreciated. A word of thanks to the Tourlestrane GAA club for having the pitch in fine condition and for the post-match refreshments.
