TREAD SOFTLY FESTIVAL

Cranmore Community Cooperative Society Ltd organised a family day out on the Rose of Innisfree and Parkes Castle as part of the Tread Softly Festival.

A total of 69 people took part on the day, with George McGoldrick as our captain. Both children and adults found the whole experience very enjoyable as well as entertaining. George provided some very interesting facts and histories of the islands and old tales of the lake.

The tour included some of Sligo’s famous characters such as Beezie Gallagher. In addition, George recited some WB Yeats poetry and sang a few songs. Furthermore, the group were also given guided tours of Parkes Castle by the very talented Parkes Castle tour guides.

There was a lovely atmosphere on the cruiser and everyone remarked what a lovely day out it was. Betty McMorrow stated ‘it was an absolutely beautiful day out and how the staff and Tina McGoldrick could not do enough for us’. Dolly Loftus also remarked ‘what a lovely trip it was and that the children really enjoyed the trip’.

Dolly also tells us that her granddaughter Kayley remarked it was the best day of her life and that she will never forget it’.

Maeve Colreavy informs us that her Niece Eve, was fascinated by the history of the lake and Parkes Castle and has been actually doing a bit of research on the things she learned on the trip since.

On behalf of the community, we wish to thank George and Tina McGoldrick for sponsoring this trip for our families. We would also like to thank Michael Carty, Sligo County Council, for including our families in the Tread Softly Festival and good luck with the rest of the festival.
