The Sligo Champion

Lough Gill brewery wins big at Beer ‘oscars’ in London

-

Sligo’s Lough Gill Brewery is this week toasting global recognition – after it scooped three major awards at the world ‘oscars’ for beer in London.

The World Beer Awards in London recognise the best beers on the planet and Sligo town’s only brewery received three huge pats on the back.

In an event held at the Hilton London Olympia, Lough Gill received best in Ireland awards for its McNutty Macademia Nut Brown Ale; Irish Punch Up Sloe Barley Wine and Imperial Oatmeal Stout.

The awards are a huge boost to the one- year-old Cleveragh-based brewery, founded by James Ward, who also founded the White Hag in Ballymote several years ago before leaving that venture.

“Our beers are all about flavour and the judges were looking for exceptional taste and quality. We’re delighted and honoured with the recognition,” said Ward.

It’s been a busy year for Lough Gill with strong demand for its beer locally and nationally.

The brewery has also been busy meeting orders from the United States, including large orders for its popular and now prize-winning Punch Up Series.
