Passing of former County Development officer
FORMER County Development Officer, Terence (Terry) Byrne, has passed away.
Mr Byrne of Circular Road, Sligo worked in the Department of Finance and was appointed to the role as County Development Officer in Sligo.
He died peacefully at home on August 5 th and is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Kay) and children, Declan, Carmel, Aengus, Cathriona and Marese.
Mass of the Resurrection was celebrated on Tuesday August 8th. in St. Anne’s Church followed by burial in Sligo Cemetery.
Mr Byrne was a member of the Western Rail Corridor group and lobbied to have the passenger train service between Collooney and Galway restored.
Mr Byrne was also credited with establishing the Sligo Business Enterprise Fund.
Using funds from the Department of Finance, this was introduced at a time when the main banks were not lending to small businesses. Mr Byrne was a chartered accountant by profession. He also served on the board of Sligo Airport.
