LAURA THRILLED TO WIN

-

AFTER judge Katherine Lynch announced the Ladies Day winner as Laura Hanlon from Roscommon, she was visibly shocked and speechless.

She started making hats six years ago and it’s grown into a business, with her mum also wearing a hat of hers.

The Fuerty woman said: “I’m shocked, I’ve never won at Ladies Day before.

“My jacket is from Red Lane Boutique and my skirt is from Sosew in Naas, shoes are from Penneys, I made my own neckpiece and my own hat.

“My bag is Channel I borrowed from my friend and maybe now I can buy one!,” she laughed.

Laura also made the hat her proud moth- er was wearing to the races too.

“We have gone to a good few races before dotted around but I’ve never won before so this is great. I’m thrilled.

“I won €1500 which is unbelievable,” she said.

“I was very emotional when Katherine named out the winner because I just wasn’t expecting to win even though I really wanted to.

“I was just thrilled with it. I was lost for words,” she explained.

“There was some fabulous style here today.

“It was a tough competition I have to say. I really love fashion, I’m constantly following it.

“I started making hats around six years ago.

“It was just a little hobby to have really and it’s getting busier.

“I make them for friends and stuff and also sell them under the name Laura Hanlon Designer.

“I think the Races is a good way to get out there and promote them too.

“I’m a hairdresser in my real job based in Roscommon town.

“Mum is delighted and thrilled that I won too,” the Ladies Day winner added.

Judge Katherine Lynch, who was judging her first Ladies Day, said it was a tough competition and remarked on the effort put in by the ladies.
