Heather wins another Tri

-

SLIGO Triathlon Club’s Heather Foley won her 3rd national title of the year in dominant fashion last weekend at the Irish Standard Distance Triathlon Championships in Mullingar.

Midland Triathlon Club hosted the event in the ideal setting of Lough Ennell, with the race run over a 1,500metre swim, 40k cycle and 10k run. Heather who was going into the race as one of the main favourites didn’t let the pressure get to her, she started with a strong swim, exiting the lake only 40seconds behind Niamh Corry (Fingal Tri Club) but within the first kilometre of the bike leg Foley was into the lead and never looked back.

She built up a 4minute lead by the time she started her run and completed the run with the fastest split of 39.03 and an overall time of 2.10.15, nearly 6minutes ahead of the second place finisher.

This national title completes an unprecedented run of success whereby Heather now holds all three Irish Triathlon titles (Sprint, Standard and Middle Distance) along with also the Irish Duathlon title.

Other members from Sligo Triathlon Club racing at Lough Ennell were Dermot Cunningham, Sheila Devaney, Ruth Walsh and James Hardiman. For Dermot it will have been his final tune-up before tackling the big event next weekend in Dublin 70.3 triathlon.
