Knocknarea Loop is a success

-

CONDITIONS were perfect for the Knocknarea 8 Mile Loop event, the sixth annual event for Strand Celtic FC. Over 200 runners and walkers were registered, making it their most successful run to date. Jakob Buchreiter set off at a ferocious pace but the very experienced Seamus Somers of Sligo AC bided his time and ended up winning the race in 44 minutes and 37 seconds. Seamus won the first Knocknarea Loop in 2012 and clipped over 30 seconds off his time from 2016. Battling Seamus all the way round the course were ex-Strand Celtic footballer Marty Brennan who finished in second place and Aidan McMoreland who finished third. The first of the Ladies home was Eimear O’Connor who had an outstanding run finishing the course in 56 minutes and 6 seconds. Eimear was challenged all the way by Megan Finch who came across the line just 19 seconds later. Niamh Nicholson had a great run to take third place. Emma Keane was in great form and took the prize for the first local female across the line. Barry O’Kane pipped Declan Brennan for the honour of being the first local male. A huge thank you to the race sponsors Tegre Sliding Wardrobes for their greatly valued support. Wojciech Terlecki of Tegre took part in the race and got round in under 55 minutes. Chip timing for the event was provided by Core Timing. Damian McCallion of Strand Celtic thanked the many volunteers, organising committee, marshals (especially those from the Warriors), and everyone helping out.
