RECENT DEATHS

The death took place following an motor accident on August 6 of Alan O’Dowd, Lisacul, Castlerea. He was son of Marty O’Dowd a native of Gurteen. Sincere sympathy is extended to his parents Marty and Bridie his son Noah, his brother and sisters and to his aunt and uncles in Gurteen Mary Catherine O’Hara, Paddy, Brendan, Michael and David and to Paul, Culfadda and Geraldine, Ballymote and to all his nephews and nieces and many relations and friends. May he rest in peace.

The death took place suddenly on Saturday, August 5, of Michael Melia, Carrick-on-Shannon. He was husband of Margaret née Shannon, Mahanagh, Cloonloo. Sincere sympathy is extended to Margaret, to his son Luke and daughter Megan his mother – inlaw, Eilish Shannon, Mahanagh, Cloonloo and to all his relations and friends. May he rest in peace.

The death took place on Wednesday, August 2, of Bridie McGrath, Killaraght and late of Bealragh, Elphin. Sincere sympathy is extended to her husband John, daughter Maura (Casey) sons Francis, Seán, Pádraig and Kevin and their families, her sisters Teresa Moran Elphin and Mary Clarke (USA).Her funeral was on Sat with burial in Killaraght Old Cemetery. May she rest in peace.

SYMPATHY

Sincere sympathy is extended to Marian Toolan, Taverane, Cloonloo on the death of her aunt – in-law Rose Beirne wife of the late Jimmy Beirne of Taverane, who died in London. Her funeral took place on last Thursday in London. May she rest in peace. RECENT.

Welcomed into the Sacrament on Saturday last was Jason Michael Quinn, son of Majella (Cryan) and Michael Quinn, Seefin – a brother to Oisin and Tristan.

Congratula­tions to Niamh and Joseph Duffy, Gurteen View on the birth on July 17 of baby Ailbhe – sister to Cormac, Joseph and Tara.

GURTEEN GAMES COMPANY

Members of Gurteen Games Company are currently distributi­ng appeal letters and a donation envelope to each household during the month of August. The annual collection is the main fundraisin­g drive for maintenanc­e/developmen­t of the Sportsfiel­d and Walkway. The only other fundraisng event is the quiz at Christmas time. Support would be greatly appreciate­d.

BINGO

Bingo is on every Friday night at 8.30 p.m. in Gurteen Hall. the jackpot is now €1,800 on 46 calls or less with a lotto jackpot of €600. Profits are shared for the hall upkeep and the local GAA Club Eastern Harps.

SUMMER SEISIUNS

The summer Seisiun continues in the Coleman Music Centre, Gurteen on Wednesday night at 8.30 p.m. This stage show features the resident group – which includes Junior Davey, Michael Hurley, Fiona Doherty, PJ Hernon, John Dwyer, Niamh McGloin, Cliona Henry, Maureen O’Dowd, dancers Conor Walsh and Laura Ganley all showcasing traditiona­l music at its best and the audience is entertaine­d with a variety of traditiona­l music, song and dance. HOSPICE FUN WALK

The 24th annual Culfadda Fun Walk in aid of North West Hospice will be on Sunday, September 3, at 1 p.m. Registrati­on at 12.30 p.m. in Culfadda Community Centre. COLEMAN FESTIVAL

The Coleman Traditiona­l Festival 2017 will be held from August 24 to August 27 inclusive. It will feature a Film night showing two traditiona­l films: two top class traditiona­l concerts in the Coleman Centre, Gurteen, a festival ceili in Gurteen Hall and a monster music session at the Coleman Cottage, Mount Irwin. The festival is organised by Craobh Coleman Branch of CCE.
